Who We Are
In 1842, Joseph Mossop, a skilled tanner from Keswick, UK, left Cumberland with his brothers at 26 to emigrate to the Cape in Africa. Upon arrival, he founded Mossop and Sons, a tannery. Notably, this venture predates Old Mutual, as Joseph acquired land from John Ebden, who used the proceeds to start the insurance firm, predating Mossop's business by a year.
